This is part of the Flux Discovery Series. Each week we feature a promising new startup on the LA scene.
This week, we interviewed Pramono Wang, cofounder of Uship.
What does your app do?
Our app provides a broad range of scholarships that match every student’s needs.
When did you start working on it?
What is your role in the company?
I’m the co-founder.
How did you get the idea?
When I wanted to apply for scholarships, I had a lot of difficulties finding scholarships that matched my needs. I had to go to the scholarship resource center to find more information about them, and decided there should be a faster and easier way for students to find the information they need.
What were some of the struggles you faced in early stages of the company?
One of our biggest struggles so far has just been getting all the right information on various scholarships. It’s extremely important that we provide accurate information to our users, so we’ve had to do thorough research.
What has been the most exciting thing about the process so far?
The most exciting step has been finally building the app, which we did just recently. It’s almost published and we’re incredibly excited to share it. We’ve already submitted it for approval, and should have it released within a few weeks.
What is the big vision for the company? What does the future look like?
We’re currently focusing on the Los Angeles area, but hope to expand to scholarships across the United States in the future.
Who is an inspirational entrepreneur to you?
Evan Spiegel, the founder of Snapchat, is my idol. He’s the one who inspired me to make a startup of my own.
Be sure to check out Uship here and keep an eye out for the app, which will be released soon!
